AAG Feature: 5 Standout Games in 2nd half of 2009

4th July 2009 - 2009 is certainly proving to be a big year in gaming. With E3 back in full force this year, many great titles were showcased. We have already seen great games like Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5 released. With the second half of the year now upon us, we take a look at 5 games that will surely be at the top of everyone's must have list for the remainder of 2009.

5. Halo 3: ODST

Halo 3 was a resounding success for Microsoft and the Xbox 360. After Halo 3, Bungie split from Microsoft and became an independent developer again. However Microsoft still owns the Halo series. In what is sort of an extension of Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST will see you in control of a lone UNSC soldier, known as “the rookie” and not Master Chief. Halo 3: ODST should hopefully prove to be an enhanced version of Halo 3 as the graphics should have a significant upgrade and couple that with the traditional great Halo gameplay and awesome online multiplayer, Halo 3: ODST should be a sure fire hit.

4. Bioshock 2

The sequel to the awesome original, Bioshock 2 will include not only a great single player campaign, but will venture into multiplayer. It is a bold move and may prove to be a wrong move if they can’t implement a good multiplayer mode. The multiplayer mode will not include co-op though, which would have been great. In Bioshock 2 you take the role of the Big Daddy from the first game which should be awesome as you will be able to use the drill and rivet gun as weapons, although the drill will overheat if used continuously, which is bound to happen! With an even better single player story and the inclusion of multiplayer, Bioshock 2 should improve on the classic original and be a game to rush out and get on launch day.

3. Forza 3

After an impressive debut at this year’s E3, Forza 3 is looking to massively improve on the great Forza 2. With hugely updated graphics, which have been touted as being better than Gran Turismo 5’s, although that will remain to be seen and a vastly extended car and track list, Forza 3 will be the racer to get for Xbox 360 owners.

2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2 was given the award of Best of E3 2009 and if you saw the Sony conference where it was shown, you will know why. Uncharted 2 sees the return of fortune hunter Nathan Drake in a pulse-pounding third-person action-adventure/shooter created by award-winning developer Naughty Dog. With unbelievable graphics and great gameplay, this should contend for 2009 Game of the Year.

1. Modern Warfare 2

Infinity Ward is arguably the king of first person shooters. After producing the stunning Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, they are hard at work getting there latest game, Modern Warfare 2 ready for release in November. After watching the trailers that have been released and the gameplay that was shown at E3, it is easy to tell that this game is going to be massive! As it is being released on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, Modern Warfare 2 should be the biggest release of 2009 and a definite contender, if not winner of the 2009 Game of the Year award.

Well there you have it, although there are many other must have games that are coming in the second half of 2009, the purchase of any of the above 5 games are sure to provide many hours of awesome entertainment.
